Linthicum Centennial Quilt Finds a Home

The well-traveled Linthicum Centennial Quilt finally found a home following the Centennial Gala on November 15.  Margaret Harwell, of Glen Burnie (right), became the proud owner after her winning ticket was drawn that evening.  The quilt was made by Mrs. Eastland (left) and her husband, Frank, and it featured 20 photos of Linthicum's historic homes, churches and landmarks. The Eastlands also  drew the winning ticket at the Centennial Gala.

Local Businesses Celebrate Holiday with Open House

The businesses in Linthicum are holding their first-ever Holiday Open House Nov. 29 and 30, and there will be sidewalk sales (weather permitting) up and down the Shipley-Linthicum Shopping Center, in the Stavlas Center and at Petal Pusher and Bob's Barber Shop. 

This marks the first time local businesses have joined for a holiday event.  Everything starts at 10 a.m. and lasts until 2 p.m. both days, and special sales will be available throughout the day.  Santa Claus will be in attendance at Bruce's Hardware, and Skip Booth will be providing music at Bob's Barber Shop.

Be sure to pick up your copy of the new book on Linthicum history, The Train Passes Through It - A Collective History of Linthicum Heights, which was compiled and edited by Skip Booth and Beth Nowell.  It is available for $50 at Charlene's Hallmark and Petal Pusher.  The book, which is in limited supply, will make a perfect gift for anyone who has lived in or around Linthicum.

Veterans Memorial Grounbreaking Set for Saturday

The Linthicum Veterans Memorial Committee and the Linthicum Centennial Committee will hold the groundbreaking ceremony for the Linthicum Veterans Memorial on Saturday, November 8, 2008, at 11 a.m.

The ceremony will take place at the corner of Camp Meade and Maple Roads in Linthicum. All Veterans are encouraged to wear their uniforms. Parking is available along W. Maple Road, St. Christopher’s Church and at St. John Lutheran Church.

Centennial Gala Tickets Now Available

In another of a wonderful year of celebrations in our community, the Centennial Committee will host the Linthicum Centennial Gala on Saturday, Nov. 15 at the BWI Hilton, 1739 Nursery Rd.,  Linthicum.  The schedule for the evening is as follows:

7-8 PM - Cocktails & Hors D'oeuvres
8-9 PM - Dinner
9-11 PM - Dancing

Music will be provided by the Shades of Blue  Orchestra,   a 21-piece big  band, playing music from the 1940s to the present.

Centennial quilt will be raffled at the first band  break. The evening also includes a silent auction and wine with dinner.

Tickets are $75 per person, or $700 for a table of 10.  This is a Black Tie Optional evening.

Rain Delays Community Fair Until Sunday at Noon

The Linthicum Centennial Community Fair has been postponed until Sunday, Sept. 28.  Weather permitting, the parade will begin at noon, and the fair will get underway at 1 p.m. and last until 5 p.m.
